Ingredients

Scale

Marinade and Chicken

  • ½ cup Kikkoman® Teriyaki Takumi Korean BBQ Sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Kikkoman® Sesame Oil
  • pounds boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts, cut into -inch pieces

Vegetables and Garnish

  • 2 small bell peppers, cut into -inch pieces
  • 1 medium red onion, cut into wedges
  • Sesame seeds for garnish
  • Wooden or metal skewers

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Marinade: In a medium mixing bowl, combine ½ cup Kikkoman Teriyaki Takumi Korean BBQ sauce with 1 tablespoon sesame oil. Stir well until fully blended. Reserve 2 tablespoons of this mixture for basting later.
  2. Marinate the Chicken: Add the chicken pieces to the bowl and toss thoroughly to coat evenly with the marinade. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, ideally up to 8 hours to deepen the flavor.
  3. Soak Skewers and Preheat Grill: If using wooden skewers, soak them in water for at least 30 minutes to prevent burning during grilling. Meanwhile, preheat your grill to medium-high heat to ensure it’s hot and ready.
  4. Assemble the Skewers: Thread the marinated chicken pieces alternately with the cut bell pepper chunks and red onion wedges onto the skewers. This layering helps impart flavor and adds colorful presentation.
  5. Grill the Skewers: Place the assembled skewers on the grill. Cook for 10 to 12 minutes, turning every few minutes to ensure even cooking. During the final few minutes, brush the skewers generously with the reserved marinade for a glossy, flavorful finish. The chicken should be fully cooked and lightly charred.
  6. Garnish and Serve: Remove the skewers from the grill carefully. Sprinkle sesame seeds over the top to add texture and a nutty aroma. Serve immediately while hot and juicy.

Notes

  • For best results, marinate the chicken up to 8 hours but not less than 1 hour for flavor penetration.
  • Use boneless, skinless chicken thighs for more tender and juicy results; breasts can be used but may dry out slightly.
  • If you do not have Kikkoman Teriyaki Takumi Korean BBQ sauce, substitute with your favorite teriyaki or Korean BBQ sauce.
  • Soaking wooden skewers prevents them from burning on the grill.
  • Adjust grilling time if using thicker cuts or smaller pieces of chicken to avoid under- or overcooking.
  • Can be served with steamed rice or a fresh salad for a complete meal.
