This White Trash Bar recipe combines the crunchy saltiness of Ritz crackers with sweet, buttery Skor bits and creamy vanilla icing for a delightful layered treat. Perfect as a quick and indulgent dessert, these bars offer a wonderful contrast of textures and flavors with a rich caramelized base topped with luscious frosting.

Ingredients

Scale

Base Layer

  • 255 g box of Ritz crackers (approximately 4 cups crushed)
  • 270 g bag of Skor bits (toffee bits), reserve 2 tablespoons for topping
  • 300 ml can of sweetened condensed milk

Topping

  • 450 g container of French vanilla icing

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cracker Mixture: Crush the Ritz crackers into fine pieces and place them into a medium-sized mixing bowl. Pour the entire can of sweetened condensed milk over the crushed crackers.
  2. Add Toffee Bits: Mix the bag of Skor toffee bits into the cracker and condensed milk mixture, reserving 2 tablespoons to sprinkle on top later.
  3. Press into Pan: Transfer the mixture into an 8×8 inch or 7×11 inch baking pan. Press the mixture down evenly to create a compact layer.
  4. Bake the Base: Place the pan in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the edges begin to bubble and caramelize, indicating the base is set and golden.
  5. Cool Completely: Remove the pan from the oven and allow the base to cool completely at room temperature. This is crucial for the icing to properly adhere and set.
  6. Ice and Garnish: Once cooled, spread the entire container of French vanilla icing over the base evenly. Sprinkle the reserved 2 tablespoons of Skor bits on top for added texture and crunch.
  7. Cut into Bars: Slice into squares and serve as delightful sweet bars perfect for sharing at parties or as a homemade treat.

Notes

  • Be sure to cool the base completely before icing to prevent the frosting from melting or sliding off.
  • You can substitute Skor bits with any other toffee bits or crushed caramel candies.
  • For easier serving, line the pan with parchment paper before pressing the mixture in.
  • Store the bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for longer freshness.
