Ingredients

Scale

Dough and Filling

  • 1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

Optional Glaze

  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 12 tablespoons milk
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven: Set your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ease cleanup.
  2. Prepare the cinnamon sugar mixture: In a small bowl, thoroughly mix the granulated sugar with the ground cinnamon to create an even cinnamon-sugar blend for the filling.
  3. Unroll and layer the dough: Open the can of crescent roll dough and separate it into four rectangles by joining the connected triangles and pressing seams firmly to seal.
  4. Brush and sprinkle: Lightly brush each rectangle with melted butter. Evenly sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture over two of the rectangles, then top each with one of the remaining rectangles to create a filled sandwich.
  5. Cut and twist: Slice each filled rectangle lengthwise into 4 to 5 strips using a knife or pizza cutter. Gently twist each strip a few times to form the twists and lay them on the prepared baking sheet.
  6. Bake: Place the tray in the oven and bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the twists turn golden brown and puffed.
  7. Add glaze (optional): While the twists bake, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract in a small bowl until smooth. After the twists have cooled slightly, drizzle the glaze on top for added sweetness.
  8. Serve and enjoy: Serve warm for optimal flakiness and flavor. These twists are best fresh but remain delicious if served later.

Notes

  • Press seams well to prevent filling from leaking during baking.
  • For a dairy-free version, substitute with vegan butter and plant-based milk in the glaze.
  • Adjust glaze thickness by adding more milk or powdered sugar as needed.
  • Serve immediately for the best texture; however, store leftovers in an airtight container to keep fresh.
  • Can be reheated briefly in the oven or microwave for crispiness.
