Fruit
- 2–3 Gala apples
- Lemon juice (2 tablespoons, to soak apples)
Pastry & Sweeteners
- 1 box of puff pastry sheets (thawed if frozen)
- Agave syrup (for brushing, approximately 2-3 tablespoons)
Spices & Garnish
- Cinnamon (for dusting, about 1 teaspoon)
- Powdered sugar (for sprinkling, about 1 tablespoon)
- Prepare the Apples: Thinly slice the Gala apples and place them in a bowl of lemon water to prevent browning. Microwave the slices in the lemon water for 5 minutes until they become tender but still maintain their shape.
- Prepare Puff Pastry: Roll out the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface and cut it into 6 even strips. Brush each strip generously with agave syrup to add sweetness and help the pastry brown evenly.
- Assemble the Pastry Roses: Arrange 7-9 apple slices along one edge of each pastry strip, slightly overlapping them. Carefully fold the bottom part of the strip up over the apple slices, then gently roll the strip from one end to the other to form a rose shape.
- Preheat Oven: Set your oven to 375°F (190°C) and allow it to reach the desired temperature before baking to ensure an even cooking environment.
- Arrange and Bake: Place each rolled apple pastry rose into a muffin tin cup to help them hold their shape while baking. Bake the pastries for 35-45 minutes or until they are puffed up and golden brown.
- Cool and Garnish: Allow the pastries to cool slightly before removing them from the muffin tin. Once cooled, generously sprinkle with cinnamon and powdered sugar to enhance flavor and presentation. Serve warm and enjoy!
Notes
- Using lemon juice in the water prevents apples from browning and enhances flavor.
- Adjust baking time based on your oven; keep an eye to avoid burning.
- Frozen puff pastry should be completely thawed before use for best results.
- Substitute agave syrup with honey or fruit preserves if preferred.
- These pastries are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
