Ingredients

Scale

Meat and Seasoning

  • 1 lb Ground beef (or turkey/chicken/vegetarian substitute)
  • 1 Taco seasoning packet (mixed with water as directed)
  • 2/3 cup Water (as per taco seasoning instructions)

Crust and Base

  • 1 lb Pizza dough (homemade or store-bought)
  • 1 cup Refried beans (can mix with cream cheese & salsa for base)
  • 1/2 cup Salsa or taco sauce (adjust heat to taste)

Cheeses

  • 1 cup Shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup Shredded Mexican blend cheese (or any cheese you like)
  • 1/2 cup Mozzarella cheese (optional, for stretchiness)

Toppings

  • 1 cup Shredded lettuce
  • 1/2 cup Diced tomatoes
  • 1/3 cup Sour cream (or Greek yogurt)
  • 1/4 cup Black olives, sliced
  • Optional toppings: Jalapeños, avocado, cilantro, hot sauce

Instructions

  1. Cook the Meat: Brown the ground beef in a skillet over medium heat until fully cooked. Drain excess grease to reduce fat content.
  2. Season the Meat: Add the taco seasoning packet along with 2/3 cup water as instructed on the seasoning packet. Simmer the mixture until it thickens, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Prepare the Crust: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Roll out the pizza dough on a floured surface to your desired thickness. Place on a baking sheet or pizza stone. Brush the dough lightly with oil or garlic butter to add flavor and help it crisp. Pre-bake the crust for 7-8 minutes until it’s slightly cooked but not browned.
  4. Assemble the Pizza: Spread the refried beans evenly across the pre-baked crust as the base layer. Then spread salsa or taco sauce on top of the beans. Add the cooked and seasoned meat evenly over this layer. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar, Mexican blend, and optional mozzarella cheeses evenly on top.
  5. Bake and Cool: Place the assembled pizza in the oven and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and golden. Remove from the oven and let cool for 5 minutes to set.
  6. Top and Serve: Add fresh toppings such as shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, sour cream or Greek yogurt, and sliced black olives. Add any optional toppings like jalapeños, avocado, cilantro, or hot sauce to your preference. Slice into pieces and serve warm.

Notes

  • For a vegetarian version, substitute ground beef with seasoned lentils or plant-based meat alternatives.
  • You can mix refried beans with a bit of cream cheese and salsa for a creamier base.
  • Adjust the heat by choosing mild or spicy taco seasoning and salsa.
  • Pre-baking the crust ensures it stays crisp and doesn’t get soggy from wet toppings.
  • Leftover pizza keeps well refrigerated for up to 3 days and can be reheated in the oven for best texture.
  • Customize toppings to include your favorite taco additions like jalapeños, avocado slices, or fresh cilantro.
