For the Salisbury Steak Patties:
- 1 ½ pounds lean ground beef
- 1 egg yolk
- ¼ cup minced onion
- ⅓ cup Panko bread crumbs
- 3 tablespoons milk
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- ¾ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
For the Mushroom Onion Gravy:
- 6 ounces mushrooms, sliced
- ½ medium yellow onion, sliced
- 1 ½ cups beef broth or low-sodium beef broth
- 1 ounce brown gravy mix (1 packet)
- 2 tablespoons ketchup
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley or 2 teaspoons dried
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 4 tablespoons water
- Place mushrooms and onions in the bottom of your slow cooker. This forms the base of the dish.
- Combine the ingredients for the beef patties and form 6 patties. Brown them in a skillet over medium-high heat for about 3 minutes per side.
- Layer the beef patties over the mushrooms in the slow cooker. Combine the remaining ingredients (except water and cornstarch) to make the gravy. Pour the gravy over the beef patties and cook on low for 5 hours.
- Once the patties are cooked, remove them and set aside.
- Turn the slow cooker to high heat. Make a cornstarch slurry by combining cold water and cornstarch. Stir this mixture into the broth in the slow cooker and let it cook for a few minutes until thickened. Add the beef patties back into the sauce to coat.
- Serve the Salisbury steak over mashed potatoes or rice.
