Ingredients

Scale

Meat and Vegetables

  • 2 lbs ground beef (80/20 fat ratio preferred)
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 2 large bell peppers (green, red, or mixed), diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

Dairy

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened to room temperature
  • 8 oz provolone cheese, sliced
  • 1.5 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded

Other Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven and prepare dish: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Spray a 9×13 inch baking dish generously with non-stick spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Sauté vegetables: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add diced onions and bell peppers. Cook for 5-6 minutes until softened and fragrant. Add minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds, stirring constantly so the garlic doesn’t burn.
  3. Cook ground beef: Add ground beef to the skillet, breaking it up with a spatula. Season with salt and pepper. Cook for 7-8 minutes until browned throughout with no pink remaining. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  4. Add Worcestershire and cream cheese: Stir in Worcestershire sauce, coating the meat mixture well. Reduce heat to low, then add softened cream cheese. Stir continuously until cream cheese is fully melted, creating a creamy, rich filling.
  5. Assemble casserole: Transfer the beef and vegetable mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish. Layer torn provolone cheese slices over the top, then sprinkle shredded mozzarella evenly as a final cheesy topping.
  6. Bake: Place casserole in the preheated oven and bake for 22-25 minutes, until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and lightly golden on top.
  7. Rest and serve: Remove from the oven and let rest for 5 minutes to allow flavors to meld and set before serving.

Notes

  • You can use a mix of bell pepper colors for a vibrant dish.
  • Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper to your taste preference.
  • For creamier texture, ensure cream cheese is softened before adding.
  • Drain excess fat from cooked beef to reduce grease in casserole.
  • Leftovers keep well refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheat nicely.
