Fruits
- 1 ripe banana or frozen banana
- 1/2 fresh lemon (juice and zest)
Spices and Sweeteners
- 1 thumb-sized piece of fresh ginger or 1 tsp pre-minced ginger
- 1/2 tsp ground turmeric
- 1 tsp honey or maple syrup (optional)
- Pinch of black pepper
Liquids and Others
- 1 cup plant milk (almond or coconut milk)
- 3–4 ice cubes (optional)
- Prepare the banana: Peel and chop your banana into smaller pieces. If using frozen banana, allow it to thaw for a few minutes to blend more easily.
- Prepare the lemon: Wash the lemon thoroughly, then grate some zest using a fine grater. Cut the lemon in half and squeeze out the juice, ensuring no seeds get into the juice.
- Prepare the ginger: Peel the thumb-sized piece of fresh ginger, then grate it finely. Alternatively, if using pre-minced ginger, measure out 1 teaspoon.
- Combine ingredients: Add the chopped banana, lemon juice, lemon zest, grated ginger, ground turmeric, plant milk, ice cubes, honey or maple syrup if using, and a pinch of black pepper to your blender.
- Blend until smooth: Blend all ingredients thoroughly until you achieve a smooth texture. If the smoothie is too thick, add a little more plant milk and blend again. If it isn’t cold enough, add extra ice cubes and blend.
- Serve and enjoy: Pour the smoothie into a glass and enjoy immediately to savor the fresh, vibrant flavors at their best.
Notes
- Use fresh lemon for the best citrus flavor; bottled lemon juice may alter taste.
- The black pepper enhances the absorption of turmeric’s curcumin.
- Adjust sweetness with honey or maple syrup according to taste or omit for a sugar-free version.
- Frozen bananas create a creamier, chilled smoothie but can be substituted with fresh bananas.
- This smoothie is best consumed immediately to enjoy the fresh zest and ginger flavors.
