Ingredients

Scale

Spice Mix

  • 3 teaspoons salt (or more to taste)
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons onion powder
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • 2 teaspoons paprika

Main Ingredients

  • 2 pounds cubed steak (sirloin or NY Strip)
  • 2 pounds Yukon gold potatoes (peeled and cubed into small bite-sized pieces)
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Browning sauce (optional, for color)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Garlic Herb Butter

  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter (softened)
  • 2 tablespoons minced garlic
  • 2 tablespoons parsley (chopped)

Garnish

  • Parsley (for garnish)
  • Red pepper flakes (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Make the spice mix: In a small bowl, combine the salt, garlic powder, onion powder, Italian seasoning, and paprika. Divide this spice mixture into two equal portions and set aside for later use.
  2. Prepare garlic herb butter: In another small bowl, mix the softened unsalted butter with minced garlic and chopped fresh parsley until well combined. Set aside to use at the end.
  3. Season the steak: Place the cubed steak into a large bowl and add Worcestershire sauce, optional browning sauce, and one half of the spice mixture. Toss the beef until it is evenly coated with the seasoning.
  4. Parboil and season potatoes: Boil the cubed Yukon gold potatoes in salted water for 5 to 6 minutes until they just start to soften but are still firm. Drain and let them cool slightly. Then, toss the potatoes with the remaining half of the spice mix and 1 tablespoon of olive oil to coat.
  5. Cook steak and potatoes: Heat the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the seasoned steak for about 5 to 7 minutes until browned on all sides. Remove the steak and set aside. In the same skillet, add the parboiled potatoes and cook for 10 to 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until golden and fork-tender.
  6. Combine and finish with garlic butter: Return the steak to the skillet with the potatoes. Add the prepared garlic herb butter and toss everything together carefully so both the steak and potatoes soak up the buttery garlic flavor. Garnish with fresh parsley and red pepper flakes before serving.

Notes

  • For best flavor, use a good quality sirloin or NY Strip steak cut into cubes.
  • Parboiling the potatoes prevents them from being undercooked inside while crisping up on the outside when pan-fried.
  • Optional browning sauce adds extra color and depth but can be omitted if unavailable.
  • Adjust seasoning salt to taste, especially if using salted butter or Worcestershire sauce.
  • Red pepper flakes add a subtle heat but can be omitted or increased based on preference.
  • Rest the steak briefly after searing for more tender results before combining with potatoes.
  • This dish pairs well with a simple green salad or steamed vegetables for a balanced meal.
