Rice Krispie Treat Base

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Rice Krispie Treats: In a large pot over medium-low heat, melt the butter carefully. Add the mini marshmallows and stir continuously until the mixture is completely smooth and melted. Remove the pot from heat.
  2. Combine with Cereal: Add the crispy rice cereal to the marshmallow mixture. Using a rubber spatula coated with cooking spray to prevent sticking, gently but thoroughly stir until all the cereal is evenly coated.
  3. Shape the Treats: Evenly press the rice Krispie mixture into a 9″ x 9″ pan lined with parchment paper. Press firmly to ensure the mixture is compact. Allow the pan to cool and set for about 40 minutes.
  4. Cut into Shapes: Once fully cooled and set, carefully remove the treats from the pan and cut them into evenly sized rectangles to form the base of your monster treats.
  5. Melt the Candy Coating: Following the package instructions, gently melt the candy melts until smooth and fluid for easy dipping.
  6. Dip and Coat: Dip each rectangle halfway into the melted candy coating. Use a butter knife to smooth and spread the candy to cover all desired areas evenly for a neat monster look. Place the coated treats onto parchment paper to set.
  7. Decorate Your Monsters: While the candy coating is still warm, gently press candy eyes into the treats in assorted sizes to create facial features. Use sprinkles to add ‘hair’ and personalize the monsters.
  8. Allow to Set: Let the treats rest on parchment paper for 45 minutes or until the candy coating has hardened fully. Once set, they are ready to serve and enjoy!
