Dumpling Ingredients:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp. Optional: dried herbs (ex: thyme, sage, etc.)
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 2 Tbsp. butter, melted then cooled

Instructions

  1. Prepare Soup: Have a pot of soup simmering on the stove. Dumplings cook in the soup or gravy.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, mix flour, baking powder, salt, and pepper until well blended. Add optional herbs if using. Create a well in the center.
  3. Combine Wet Ingredients: In a small bowl, mix milk and butter.
  4. Mix Batter: Add wet ingredients to dry, mix until well combined, but avoid over-mixing. The batter will be thick and a bit sticky.
  5. Form Dumplings: Use heaping teaspoons to form balls and place on parchment paper. Allow dumplings to set for 5 minutes.
  6. Cook Dumplings: Reduce heat under soup to a low simmer. Drop dumplings into the soup and cover. Do not lift the lid. Simmer for 15 to 20 minutes.
