Ingredients

Scale

Shrimp and Seasoning

  • 500g (1 lb) large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • Salt & black pepper, to taste
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp chili flakes (optional)

Cream Sauce

  • 1 cup heavy cream (or cooking cream)
  • ½ cup chicken broth (or seafood stock)
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp flour (optional, for thickening)
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp chopped parsley

Serving

  • 2 cups cooked jasmine or basmati rice

Instructions

  1. Cook Rice: Prepare the jasmine or basmati rice according to the package instructions. Once cooked, fluff with a fork and keep it warm while you prepare the shrimp.
  2. Sear Shrimp: Heat olive oil and 1 tablespoon of butter in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the shrimp and season with salt, black pepper, paprika, and chili flakes if using. Sear each side for 1 to 2 minutes until the shrimp turn pink and are cooked through, then remove them from the pan and set aside.
  3. Sauté Garlic: In the same skillet, melt 1 tablespoon of butter and sauté the minced garlic for about 30 seconds until fragrant. If you prefer a thicker sauce, whisk in the optional flour at this stage and cook briefly.
  4. Add Liquids and Simmer: Pour in the chicken broth and heavy cream, stirring well to combine. Let the mixture simmer gently for 2 to 3 minutes to allow the flavors to meld and the sauce to thicken slightly.
  5. Incorporate Cheese and Flavorings: Stir in the grated Parmesan cheese until the sauce becomes smooth and creamy. Add the lemon juice and chopped parsley, then taste and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper as needed.
  6. Return Shrimp to Sauce: Add the cooked shrimp back into the skillet and toss them in the creamy garlic sauce. Cook for an additional 1 to 2 minutes until the shrimp are heated through and fully coated with the sauce.
  7. Serve: Spoon the creamy garlic shrimp over the warm cooked rice. Garnish with extra parsley or a wedge of lemon if desired, and serve immediately for best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • For a thicker sauce, whisk in 1 tablespoon of flour when sautéing the garlic.
  • You can substitute chicken broth with seafood stock for an enhanced seafood flavor.
  • Adjust chili flakes according to your spice preference or omit for a milder dish.
  • Parmesan cheese can be replaced with Pecorino Romano for a sharper taste.
  • Use freshly squeezed lemon juice for the best flavor impact.
  • Serve with a side of steamed vegetables or a fresh salad for a complete meal.
