Mozzarella & Breading

  • 8 slices fresh mozzarella
  • ½ cup flour
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 2 cups panko breadcrumbs
  • ½ cup olive oil

Marinara Sauce

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup tomato puree
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ¼ teaspoon pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes

Instructions

  1. Mix together the flour and garlic powder in one dish.
  2. Whip together the egg and milk in another dish.
  3. Place the panko breadcrumbs in a third dish.
  4. Bread the mozzarella rounds by dipping in flour, then the egg wash, and finally the panko.
  5. Place breaded mozzarella on parchment paper on a baking sheet and freeze.
  6. In a saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute.
  7. Add tomato puree, bring to a simmer.
  8. Stir in remaining marinara ingredients and simmer over low heat.
  9. Preheat Blackstone griddle to medium heat.
  10. Oil the griddle generously.
  11. Cook mozzarella on the griddle, browning on both sides.
  12. Remove promptly and serve with marinara.
