Ingredients

Scale

Sauce Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/3 cup beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 tablespoon grated ginger
  • 1/8 teaspoon cracked red pepper flakes

Main Ingredients

  • 2 (3 ounce) packages ramen noodles, seasoning packets discarded
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil, divided
  • 1 pound sirloin steak, trimmed of fat and sliced into 1 1/2-inch strips (about 1/4-inch thickness)
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 3 cups fresh broccoli florets
  • 1/2 cup water
  • Sesame seeds, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Make the sauce: In a medium bowl, whisk together the soy sauce and cornstarch until no lumps remain. Add the beef broth, honey, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, and cracked red pepper flakes. Whisk everything until combined thoroughly. Set aside.
  2. Cook the ramen noodles: Bring a medium pot of water to boil. Add ramen noodles and cook for 2 to 3 minutes until just tender. Drain the noodles and rinse under cold water to stop cooking. Drizzle with 1 teaspoon sesame oil and toss to prevent sticking.
  3. Cook the steak: Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat until hot. Season sirloin strips with kosher salt and ground black pepper. Add to the skillet and cook without moving for about 3 minutes to brown well on one side. Stir and cook for another 2 minutes until steak is cooked through. Remove steak from skillet and drain any grease.
  4. Steam the broccoli: Add the remaining 1 tablespoon olive oil to the skillet, then add broccoli florets and 1/2 cup water. Cover the skillet and steam the broccoli for 2 minutes until bright green and fork tender but still crisp.
  5. Combine steak and noodles: Return the cooked steak strips to the skillet along with the cooked ramen noodles.
  6. Add the sauce and finish cooking: Stir the prepared sauce then pour it into the skillet with the steak, broccoli, and noodles. Using tongs, toss everything together as the sauce thickens and coats all ingredients evenly. Cook for 1 to 2 more minutes until hot throughout.
  7. Garnish and serve: Transfer to serving plates and sprinkle with sesame seeds. Serve immediately while warm.

Notes

  • For a spicier dish, increase the cracked red pepper flakes or add a dash of sriracha sauce to the sauce mixture.
  • Substitute sirloin steak with flank steak or skirt steak if desired, adjusting cooking time slightly.
  • To make it gluten-free, use gluten-free soy sauce and gluten-free ramen noodles or substitute with rice noodles.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days and reheated gently over medium heat or in the microwave.
  • Make sure not to overcook the broccoli; it should remain crisp and bright for best texture.
